NORMAL, Ill. – In their Missouri Valley Conference Team Championship opener, the University of Evansville women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 victory over Drake.  With the victory, the Purple Aces advance to play the winner of the Stony Brook/Wichita State match at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
 
"Drake did a good job tweaking their doubles this time around to get that point. We knew coming in that they were really going to sell out to get that point and we just needed to stay focused and be ready to come out strong in singles and that is exactly what our team did," UE head coach Jayson Wiseman said.
 
"I am very proud if our focus and determination," he added.  "Now we have to get ready to play the winner of Wichita St. and Stony Brook tomorrow."
 
After dropping the doubles point, Evansville came out strong in singles.  All-MVC Select Team member Chieko Yamada defeated Summer Brills at #1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.  In the second flight, the Valley Freshman of the Year Diana Tkachenko was victorious over Tess Herder, 7-6, 6-3.
 
Daria Pentsova, who won in doubles, picked up her second win of the day at the fourth flight.  She beat Kenya Williams, 6-2, 6-1.  Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga rounded out the wins as she defeated Alex Kozlowski in the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-2.
