Women's Soccer closes regular season at Loyola

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - With still significant postseason implications on the line, the University of Evansville women's soccer team travels to face Loyola in Chicago, Ill. at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The Purple Aces are coming off a 3-1 home loss to Illinois State on senior day on Saturday. After the Redbirds scored first in the 15th minute, Evansville found the response in the 63rd minute, tying the match at a goal each on freshman Emily Ormson's team-high third goal of the season. Following the Aces' game-tying goal, Illinois State answered with a goal in the 77th minute to retake the lead before adding a third goal in 85th minute to give the Redbirds the 3-1 win.

Thursday evening's match marks the 11th meeting between the Aces and Ramblers with Loyola controlling a 5-1-4 advantage in the all-time series. In last season's matchup, the Ramblers pulled out a 3-2 win after a wild final 20 minutes of regulation featured five goals. Evansville's last win over the Ramblers came in the Aces' first season, earning a 4-0 triumph over Loyola on October 29, 1993. On the season, Loyola owns an 8-6-1 overall record and are 5-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play as the Ramblers have earned back-to-back wins after falling to Illinois State, 3-2, on October 13. Offensively, the Loyola is led by Jenna Szczesny who has scored nine goals this season, sitting second in the MVC in goals. Szczesny is also tied for the team-lead in assists, recording four on the year while being joined by three other Ramblers with four assists. Between the posts, Kate Moran has played in all 15 matches for Loyola, holding a 1.16 goals-against average with 48 saves and five shutouts on the year.

All six teams in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship have been determined with the Aces securing their berth to the tournament.
