EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Following her fifth shutout of the season, University of Evansville sophomore goalkeeper Michaela Till was named Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced in a release by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
In Sunday's match against UNI, Till made six saves and provided the biggest stop of the day in the seventh round of penalty kicks. After saving the Panthers' attempt in the sixth round to prolong the PKs, freshman Amanda DaSilva converted her penalty kick, putting the Aces ahead 3-2. As UNI needed to find the back of the net to continue the match, Till made a diving save to her right, securing the ball, sending the Aces to the semifinals of the MVC Championship. Till's clean sheet was her fifth of the season and sixth of her career as she lowered her goals-against average to 1.26.
Till's player of the week honor is her second of the season for the sophomore after receiving the honor earlier this season on September 24. Till is the first Ace to win conference player of the week twice in the same season since goalkeeper Simone Busby received the accolade twice during the 2014 campaign. Advancing to the 2018 MVC Championship semifinals, Evansville will face No. 2 seed Drake in Chicago, Ill. on Friday at Loyola Soccer Park.
