EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville women's soccer team earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, it was announced in a release by the organization.

"(Academics) is one of our big pillars that we kind of talk about in the recruiting process, in general, but then also when they're here," said Aces' women's soccer head coach Krista McKendree. "Trying to make sure they're getting what they're supposed to be here doing done. It's as much focus on the classroom as it is on the field for us."

This season's honor marks the 12th-straight season in which the Purple Aces have received the team academic award. Joined by Evansville's men's team on the list, UE's soccer programs have earned the honor in sixth-straight seasons and 10 seasons overall.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster. The Aces finished the 2017-18 academic year with a 3.41 team GPA.

A total of 782 college teams (293 men, 489 women) earned the Team Academic Award. Evansville was one of 198 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.

Evansville was one of five Missouri Valley Conference teams to earn the honor, joined by Drake, Loyola, Missouri State, and Valparaiso with each of the five MVC teams earning a 3.40 GPA or higher. 

The Aces next head to Des Moines, Iowa for a contest with Drake at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
