CHICAGO, ILL. - The night before the Purple Aces' semifinal match in the 2018 MVC Championship, the University of Evansville women's soccer team saw three of its own earn recognition for their athletic efforts at the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championship Awards Banquet in Chicago, Ill..

Leading the way for Evansville was freshman Emily Wolak who was named second-team all-MVC and to the MVC all-freshman team. Joining Wolak as an all-conference selection was sophomore goalkeeper Michaela Till who earned honorable mention all-conference honors. The second freshman to earn recognition at the banquet was defender Abby Phelps, who was named to the MVC all-freshman team along with Wolak.

The honors are the first conference awards earned by all three underclassmen.

In her first season with the Purple Aces, freshman Emily Wolak has been a steady presence in Evansville's midfield. The freshman spent the most time on the pitch for Evansville among forwards and midfielders, playing 1,226 minutes while playing in all 18 matches, making 13 starts. Wolak scored her first collegiate goal in the Aces' 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech on August 31 and recorded seven shots on the season with six coming on-goal.  Earning second-team all-conference honors, Wolak is the first Aces' freshman to earn all-conference honors since Abby Springer and Simone Busby received all-conference honors as freshman in 2012.

A force in goal for the Aces, sophomore Michaela Till was a tough task for opposing defenders to face. Till played and started in 17 matches, making 90 saves with a 1.26 goals-against average. Adding her name to the record book, Till's five shutouts on the season place her in a tie for eighth in program history in single-season clean sheets. In Evansville's match at Saint Louis on September 16, Till tied a school record with 15 saves in the match.

Helping solidify the Aces' backline, freshman Abby Phelps has put together a strong season in 2018. As a defender, Phelps has the second-most minutes on the pitch of any non-goalkeeper with 1,415 minutes played this season, playing in all 18 matches and starting 16. Phelps played every minute of the last five matches for the Aces, spending 90 or more minutes on the pitch in 11 matches.
