Aces Baseball heads down to Big D looking to make some noise in the MVC's

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - With the regular season in the rear-view mirror, the University of Evansville baseball team is Lone Star State-Bound, as they look to begin anew in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, beginnings Wednesday on the campus of Dallas Baptist University.

The Purple Aces bats have erupted in May. As a team, Evansville is batting .308 in 12 games, hitting 17 home runs, knocking 73 RBIs,with an eye-popping .511 slugging percentage. 

The Purple Aces will open up the MVC tournament against league champion and top seed Missouri State. Evansville was swept out of Springfield by the Bears three straight (April 6-8) earlier this season. However, they held a late lead on the Bears in game one of the series, before Missouri State rallied late to take a 6-5 decision.

Missouri State holds the all-time edge in this series, leading the Purple Aces 53-36 over the years, after sweeping Evansville back on the weekend of April 6-8. However, the Aces hold a slight edge in tournament play, taking 7 of the 13 times the two teams have met, dating back to 1995.

The Purple Aces will open the tournament with freshman right-hander Austin Ruesch, who is coming off strong outing against Illinois State last Friday. Ruesch, recovered from a shaky opening inning, to toss three scoreless innings, striking out five batters, before rain suspended the game. 

Purple Aces Head Coach Wes Carroll has yet to name starters for the rest of the tournament.
