Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. - Despite a strong defensive effort, the University of Evansville women's soccer team could not find an equalizer late, falling to UT Martin, 1-0, on the road in Martin, Tenn. on a drizzly Wednesday evening.
"I thought we battled and fought the way we are capable in the second half, and for us to do that and not get a result stings a bit more," said Aces' women's soccer head coach Krista McKendree. "Till and a couple others made some big plays in the first half to keep us in it and their goalkeeper made a remarkable save on an excellent shot by Eyler in the first half. An unfortunate mistake gave them a decent look in the first minute which is always hard to respond from, but the ladies dug deep and kept pressuring to find the equalizer. Not the result we wanted, but some good positives to take into Friday's game."
Evansville's attack got off to a fast start as senior Sara Osinski recorded a pair of shots within the opening 10 minutes, including one that forced Skyhawk goalkeeper Erica Myers to make a save. Throughout the opening 45 minutes, Aces' sophomore goalkeeper Michaela Till was tested and withstood the pressure as UTM tallied eight first half shots with five coming on goal. Although both teams combined for 11 shots in the first stanza, neither side could find its breakthrough prior to the half.

In the second half, the Skyhawks recorded the lone goal of the match in the 46th minute as Skylor Keane pushed UTM out to a one-goal advantage early in the second frame. The Aces had a pair of chances in the second half, the first coming in the 80th minute as junior Mikayla Harvey's header missed wide. With just over six minutes remaining, freshman Alex Eyler put a shot on-frame that was saved by Myers denying UE its equalizer as the Skyhawks grabbed the 1-0 win.
After tallying five first-half saves, Till finished the evening with seven saves, bringing her season total to 22 through four matches. Eyler and Osinski each recorded two shots with Eyler putting both of hers on-goal.
UE is back at Arad McCutchan Stadium on Friday night as the Aces host Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. on High School Soccer Night. Coaches can submit their high school soccer team's roster by August 30 to Lindsay Dunn at LD141@Evansville.edu and receive complimentary admission for their team as part of Evansville's celebration of high school soccer in the tri-state area.
