9/15/2018 12:21:00 AM

Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After going ahead 2-0 early in the second half, the University of Evansville women's soccer team battled to earn a 2-2 tie with Purdue Fort Wayne after the Mastodons made a late comeback on Friday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

"I think we attacked with speed and wanted to win for sure," said Aces women's soccer head coach Krista McKendree. "We had a bad five minute span there and gave up two goals and that's unacceptable and something that we have to not give up two. If we give up one, okay, but we have to be able to figure out how to get ourselves calmed down and back into our rhythm because I thought we were playing very, very well up until that point."

The opening 30 minutes of the match featured plenty of opportunities for Evansville as the Purple Aces out-shot Purdue Fort Wayne, 11-3 through the opening first half-hour. In the 41st minutes, freshman Emily Ormson dribbled into the box and was brought down, giving Evansville a penalty kick. Ormson stepped to the spot and placed the ball in the back of the net to give UE a 1-0 lead just before the halftime break.

Evansville carried some of its momentum from the ending of the opening half into the early parts of the second half. Less than 10 minutes into the half, the Aces found their second goal, this time off the foot of freshman Alex Eyler, who finished the ball after senior Sierra Pagan crossed the ball into the box and junior Mikayla Harvey chipped the ball to Eyler. 15 minutes after Eyler's goal gave Evansville the two-goal cushion, the Mastodons pulled one back, scoring in the 68th minute on a goal by Deanna Hecht. Purdue Fort Wayne recorded the equalizer in the 70th minute as the Mastodons earned a free kick. On the free kick, Baylee Kramer sent a ball into the box that was headed home by Chloee Foor to tie the match at two goals each. In the closing minutes of regulation, the Aces recorded a couple of chances, but could not grab the go-ahead goal late.

Following the end of regulation, Evansville and Purdue Fort Wayne entered the first overtime period. Despite neither side being able to score in the period, UE held a 4-0 advantage on shots as the Aces held much of the possession in the first overtime. The Aces once again prevented the Mastodons from tallying a shot in the second overtime, only recording one for the Aces as the match ticked through the second overtime as UE and Purdue Fort Wayne finished in a 2-2 tie,

In the match, the Aces out-shot Purdue Fort Wayne, 27-6, and finished with a 9-0 edge in corner kicks over the Mastodons.

Senior Sara Osinski paced Evansville in the match, recording five shots with all coming on-goal. In goal, sophomore Michaela Till spent 110 minutes between the posts, recording a save, and allowing two goals.
