Women's Soccer drops road match at nationally-ranked Butler

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Facing its first top 25 ranked opponent of the season, the University of Evansville women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 20/22 Butler on the road in Indianapolis, Ind. on Thursday evening.

"Credit goes to Butler. They are a very good team," said Aces' women's soccer head coach Krista McKendree. "I thought we played much better in the second half once we changed formations up until the last 10 minutes. We have to move forward and recover quickly so we can prepare for Sunday's game."

In the opening 15 minutes of the match, the Bulldogs found their opening goal as Katie Soderstrom kicked a free kick that Halle Stelbasky clipped int the back of the net in the 15th minute to push Butler in front. Evansville looked to try and equalize over the next 13 minutes, but it was Butler who scored in the 28th minute to double its lead. Soderstrom assisted a goal for the second time on the evening as Amanda Kowalski scored to give BU a 2-0 advantage.

After Butler's goal in the 28th minute, Evansville kept the Bulldogs from adding to their lead for over 55 minutes as the Aces looked to draw one back. In the 83rd minute, Butler found its third goal of the match as Carly Goehring scored, assisted by Macy Miller. As the match transitioned into the final minute of regulation, the Bulldogs tallied a fourth goal, the second of the night for Halle Stelbasky off an assist by Taylor Crowe and Cassidy Blacha as Butler earned the 4-0 win.

A pair of Aces recorded shots in the match with seniors Montana Portenier and Molly Lear each tallied a shot. In goal, two Aces split time with sophomore Michaela Till spending the first half between the posts, recording three saves and allowing two goals and junior Julie Rabe playing in goal in the second half, making four saves while allowing two goals.

The Aces wrap-up their three-game road set at Noon on Sunday when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to clash with IUPUI.
