Purple Aces Continue MVC Play at Illinois State

EVANSVILLE – Purple Aces women's soccer team takes the next step in Missouri Valley Conference play on the road at Illinois State, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.

  • Michaela Till has recorded 56 saves through nine matches, keeping her on pace on the career saves list, her 220 saves currently ranks 5th in program, just seven off ranking number four (227). 
  • Evansville as a team leads the MVC in saves (63), while Till herself ranks first in the MVC in saves per game (5.60).
  • UE has attempted 12 shots in the last three matches, the Aces have not attempted double digit shots in three straight matches since 2016.
  • The Aces next face Illinois State on the road, the Redbirds lead the all-time series 18-8- 3 over Evansville. Last year Illinois State took the match over UE 3-1. 
  • UE started conference play off with a scoreless draw with Indiana State (9/28). The Purple Aces are on a six game undefeated streak against Indiana State after the draw Saturday night. 
  • The Purple Aces picked up the first win of the season over Tennessee Tech, 2-0 (Sept. 13). UE had goals from Maggie Leazer and Emily Wolak, both in the first half. 
  • Purple Aces leading shot taker (19), Emily Ormson has found the back of the net twice it this season, first in the 20th minute against SEMO, before opening up the scoring against Belmont. 
  • Jayme-Lee Hunter has made some powerful defensive moves, including a diving block on a SEMO offensive play that prevented any chance for the Redhawlks. 
  • The Aces finished the 2018 season with a 1-0 loss against No. 2 Drake in double- overtime in the semifinals of the MVC Championships.
  • Evansville advanced to the semifinals after winning 3-2 in PKs over No. 3 seed UNI with Amanda DaSilva converting the go ahead PK.
  • The Purple Aces return 85 percent of their scoring from 2018, including Emily Ormson and Maggie Leazer who led the team in goal scoring a year ago.
  • Evansville was bolstered last season by solid goal keeping by Michaela Till. Posting five shutouts, 105 saves and a 1.23 goals-against-average, which ranked toward the top of the MVC.
  • A familiar face will be back on the sidelines as Chris Pfau was named assistant coach on May 15. Pfau returns to Evansville after serving as the Purple Aces head coach from 2005-07.
  • The Purple Aces were picked sixth in the MVC preseason poll, voted on by the coaches.
