Aces drop Saturday match at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Melanie Feliciano recorded a match-high 14 kills, but it was Jillie Grant's 13 kills helping Valparaiso take a 3-0 win over the University of Evansville volleyball team on Saturday evening at the ARC.
 
Feliciano hit .250 for Evansville (14-9, 5-7 MVC).  Alondra Vazquez recorded 11 kills and 8 digs while Gabriela Macedo led UE with 16 digs.  Allana McInnis registered 29 assists on the night.  Grant's 13 kills led the Crusaders (10-16, 5-7 MVC) while Jaclyn Bulmahn posted 11.  Brittany Anderson led all players with 36 assists.

Valparaiso set the early tone in game one, jumping out to an 8-1 lead.  Alondra Vazquez posted a service ace to get Evansville back within four points at 9-5, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Crusaders won by a 25-18 final.
 
The Aces found themselves in another early hole in the second set as Valpo jumped out to a 9-4 edge.  UE battled back as a Vazquez kill was part of a 3-0 stretch that made it a 9-7 game.  That would be as close as the Aces would get with the Crusaders able to push the lead back to as many as six points, which was the final deficit of 25-19.
 
In the third set, another kill from Vazquez saw UE cut into an early Valpo lead, making it a 7-5 game, but the Crusaders pushed back with an 8-1 run to put the game out of reach.  A 25-10 win saw Valapraiso clinch the 3-0 match win.
 
Monday evening will see the Aces return home to Meeks Family Fieldhouse for a 6 p.m. match-up against Bradley.
