ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- After a historic race last weekend, the University of Evansville women's cross country junior Anna Lowry was awarded Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors for the second straight season, announced in a release by the conference office on Tuesday.
 
As the Purple Aces' highest finisher in Saturday's 2019 MVC Championship, Lowry highlighted the day, running an 18:22.2 fifth place time. Lowry once again wrote herself into the record books, earning all-conference as well as becoming only the second Ace on the women's side to finish in the top-5 at the league championship. Lowry majors in athletic training and holds a 3.78 grade-point-average.  
 
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
 
Lowry's scholar-athlete recognition is the first back-to-back honor for an Evansville women's cross country student-athlete since 2013 when Kelby Jenkins earned the honor in 2012 and 2013.
