GAME NOTES
The Aces (9-7) are coming off a big weekend win over Creighton, taking two of three from the Bluejays, led by UE's dual aces, right-hander Adam Lukas and left-hander Nathan Croner. Lukas' effort earned him Missouri Valley Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Musketeers (6-13) ended a two game tailspin in shutout fashion this past Wednesday, goose-egging Butler 2-0.
SETTING THE SCENE:  • The Purple Aces (9-7) are coming off their fourth straight series win, blasting Creighton 7-1, then 11-0, before falling in Sunday's finale.
THE OPPOSITION:  • Xavier (6-13) bounced back from a series loss to Murray State by shutting out Butler Wednesday, 2-0.
THE STARTING ROTATION:  •  The Aces will open the weekend with junior right-hander Adam Lukas taking the hill for UE. Lukas is coming off the best start of his college career, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 12 Blujay batters in Evansville's 7-1 victory over Creighton in the series opener. The performance earned Lukas this week's Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honor.Â
On Saturday, the Aces will send out junior left-hander Nathan Croner for his sixth start of the season. The southpaw earned his fourth victory of the season last Saturday, tossing seven innings of shutout work, while striking out seven in Evansville's 11-0 victory over Creighton. Croner was the reigning MVC Pitcher of the Week last week.
Then, on Sunday, the Aces will give senior left-hander Alex Weigand his fourth start of the season. He took the loss in Sunday's 10-4 series finale loss to Creighton.
ALL-TIME SERIES:  • The Aces and Blue Jays have a long history, going back to their days as conference mates. Evansville holds the all-time series edge, leading 26-14.
