Woolf belts 5th home run in regular season finale

DES MOINES, Iowa – Freshman Haley Woolf registered her fifth home run of the season as the University of Evansville softball team fell by a 7-2 final in the regular season finale at Drake.

Evansville (19-29, 9-16 MVC) posted two hits on the day as Woolf hit a homer and Eryn Gould added a hit and a walk.  Lindsay Renneisen and Katie McLean also reached via the free pass.  Emily Lockhart gave up six earned runs in three frames in the circle while Ashleigh Downing had a solid effort in relief, giving up just one run and four hits in three innings.
 
Drake (40-14, 24-2 MVC) mustered up seven runs on nine hits with Taryn Pena and Sarah Maddox finishing with two RBI apiece. 
 
The big inning for the Bulldogs came in the second when they plated six of their seven runs.  UE fought back as Eryn Gould doubled to lead off the fourth, but was left stranded at second base.  After putting another runner on in the fifth, the Aces came through in the sixth.
 
Gould led the frame off with a walk before Woolf belted her fifth homer of the season to end the shutout.  It gave UE some momentum, however, Drake picked up the 7-2 win.
 
With the regular season complete, the Aces look forward to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, which will be held from Wednesday through Saturday in Peoria, Ill.  GoPurpleAces.com will have the game time and opponent for UE's opener in the tournament as soon as it is available.
