ST. LOUIS – Since his arrival at the University of Evansville in 2018, Shamar Givance has evolved into one of the top performers in the Missouri Valley Conference and was recognized on Wednesday with a spot on the league's preseason third team.
Â
Givance is coming off a monster season that saw him earn a spot on the All-MVC Second Team while also being recognized on the 2021 Most Improved Team. He finished the season in the top ten in the conference with 13.3 points per game while leading the league in steals and finishing fourth in assists.
Â
The MVC Player of the Week on March 2, 2021 scored a career-high 22 points in wins over UNI and Missouri State last season while adding a 21-point effort in the opener versus the Bears. His assist numbers were equally as impressive as he was credited with multiple helpers in 22 of the final 23 games of the year.
Â
Contributing in each facet of the game, Givance finished the year with 22 steals in the final 11 games. He also ranked in the top 10 in minutes with an average of 31.8 per game.
Â
While the assist and steals numbers have been a staple of Givance's game since his freshman season, last year saw him take a huge leap in scoring. As a sophomore in 2019-20, he averaged 4.0 points per game before upping that to 13.3 as a junior.
Â
Exhibition play gets underway for the Purple Aces on Saturday, October 30 when UE welcomes Mount St. Joseph to the Ford Center for a 1 p.m. game.
