ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Honored for her performance on the pitch and on the field, University of Evansville women's soccer fifth-year defender Emily Olson has been named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete honorable mention, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Conference office.
A constant force along the backline for the Aces for the last five seasons, Olson has aided the attack in her final collegiate season. Olson entered the season without a shot in nearly 1,500 minutes on the pitch, but scored twice this season, including a key goal in the final minute of regulation against Middle Tennessee that the Aces won on a golden-goal in the 105th minute. The Health Services Administration major helped Evansville record .34 goals-against average a season ago, the third-lowest average in the nation. Holding a 3.80 GPA, Olson has twice received the MVC's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
The honor is the first of Olson's career and follows teammate Nicole Benati's MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention recognition a year ago.
