EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville cross country teams set various personal-best times on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Aces wrapped up the 2021 cross country season by hosting the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship meet at Angel Mounds Cross Country Course in Evansville.

"I couldn't be more proud of how today went," said UE cross country head coach Don Walters. "From a hosting standpoint, things went about as well as they could. I think that all of the competing teams and runners enjoyed their time in Evansville, and I know they enjoyed running the course today.
"From a team standpoint, having eight different runners set PRs is great. We talked going into the meet that that was our goal – to set PR times. And, a lot of our runners were able to go out and do that, which is a great way to end the season."
Lowry led a short-handed women's team past teams from Green Bay, Valparaiso, Cleveland State and Purdue Fort Wayne by placing 73

Notre Dame sophomore Maddy Denner took home the individual title in the women's race with a 6-K time of 19:55.8 to help the Irish to the overall team title. Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Fighting Irish won the overall team title as well, placing six runners in the top 12 individually, while Butler teammates Simon Bedard (29:50.0) and Barry Keane (29:51.5) took home the top two individual spots in the men's 10-K race. Friday's meet marked the first time ever in which Evansville has served as the host for the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional Championships.
