Women's Soccer Returns to the Pitch Against Valparaiso

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After two weeks off the University of Evansville women's soccer team returns to action against Valparaiso on Wednesday at Arad McCutchan Stadium, at 6 p.m. on ESPN3.

Know the Aces
  • Evansville enter year one under a familiar face in head coach Chris Pfau. Pfau was promoted to head of the Evansville's women's soccer program in December of 2019. Pfau, wo returned to the UE sideline as an assistant coach in May of 2019 will begin his second stint as the Aces head coach, serving at the top spot from 2005-07.
  • The Purple Aces picked up the first win of the season on March 5 against Northern Iowa, 1-0 on March 5, at Arad McCutchan Stadium, in double overtime. 16 seconds into the second overtime, Emily Ormson intercepted a pass back by UNI and found a path to get into the open field. Ormson went half the length of the field to find the back of the next and the Purple Aces Victory.
  • UE have started three goalies this season with Michaela Till, Lauren Fischer and Georgia Katsonouri all seeing complete game time. Between the three UE has only given up one goal, faced 42 shots and made 17 saves.
  • The defense has excelled in keeping the team in each contest it has played while the goalkeepers have averaged 6.00 saves per game, which ranks as 34th in the nation.
  • The Purple Aces have given up just one goal through its first three contests. The resulting .300 goals-against-average ranks 17th in the nation, while also having a .947 save percentage that the UE goalkeepers accumulate, which ranks ninth in the NCAA.
  • Evansville holds a 232-minute streak of not allowing a goal, which dates back to the single goal given up this season at the 68-minute mark against Illinois State on Feb. 27.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Georgia Katsonouri and junior midfielder Reilly Paterson have been called up by their respective national teams. Katsonouri was a part of the Cyprus team back in November of 2020 to play in the UEFA Women's Euro qualifiers. Paterson will join the Jamaican national team camp in April, with games being played in Spain.
  • Rachel Rosborough was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors on March 16. Rosborough played all 110-minutes of the Aces shutout of Southern Illinois and was a part of the UE backline that faced 16 shots from SIU.
  • Lauren Fisher made five clutch saves to help the Purple Aces to the 1-0 victory over Northern Iowa, which earned her MVC Defensive Player of the Week, facing 14 total shots.
  • Evansville returned the top two goal scores from 2019, with Emily Ormson and Emily Wolak. Ormson also led the Aces in points and shot attempts, while Wolak was a main component for the Aces mid-field.
Know the Brown and Gold
  • Last time against Valpo, Evansville fell 1-0 with the Brown and Gold's Lauren Torhorst scoring the deciding goal of the match at the 24-minute mark and Brown Field in Valparaiso, Ind. The Purple Aces recorded four shots with one on goal, while making five saves.
  • Halfway through the MVC schedule, Valpo has earned three results in four conference matches, picking up a win and two draws. That already ties the most results for Valpo in a single conference slate since joining the MVC.
