Women's Soccer Takes on Loyola in MVC Matchup

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville Women's soccer program heads to the windy city to take on Loyola, kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Know the Aces
  • UE faces off against Loyola and the two squads represent the top defensive teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville and Loyola rank as the top two teams respectively in goals allowed and goals against average in the MVC.
  • The Purple Aces picked up the first win of the season on March 5 against Northern Iowa, 1-0 on March 5, at Arad McCutchan Stadium, in double overtime. 16 seconds into the second overtime, Emily Ormson intercepted a pass back by UNI and found a path to get into the open field. Ormson went half the length of the field to find the back of the next and the Purple Aces Victory.
  • UE have started three goalies this season with Michaela Till, Lauren Fischer and Georgia Katsonouri all seeing complete game time. Between the three UE has only given up one goal, faced 59 shots and made 24 saves.
  • The defense has excelled in keeping the team in each contest it has played while the goalkeepers have averaged 8.00 saves per game.
  • The Purple Aces have given up just two goals through its first five contests. The resulting .360 goals-against-average ranks 16th in the nation, while also having a .926 save percentage that the UE goalkeepers accumulated, which ranks 10th in the NCAA.
  • Evansville held a 352-minute streak of not allowing a goal, before giving up a goal against Drake in the 10th on March 28.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Georgia Katsonouri and junior midfielder Reilly Paterson have been called up by their respective national teams. Katsonouri was a part of the Cyprus team back in November of 2020 to play in the UEFA Women's Euro qualifiers. Paterson will join the Jamaican national team camp in April, with games being played in Spain.
  • Rachel Rosborough was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors on March 16. Rosborough played all 110-minutes of the Aces shutout of Southern Illinois and was a part of the UE back line that faced 16 shots from SIU.
  • Lauren Fisher made five clutch saves to help the Purple Aces to the 1-0 victory over Northern Iowa, which earned her MVC Defensive Player of the Week, facing 14 total shots.
  • Evansville entered year one under a familiar face in head coach Chris Pfau. Pfau was promoted to head of the Evansville's women's soccer program in December of 2019. Pfau, wo returned to the UE sideline as an assistant coach in May of 2019 will begin his second stint as the Aces head coach, serving at the top spot from 2005-07.
Know the Ramblers 
  • The University of Evansville women's soccer team finished the regular season with a, 2-0, loss to Loyola, but earned a spot in post season play, Thursday afternoon at McCutchan Stadium. The Purple Aces battled against the Ramblers for 78 minutes before Loyola found the back of the net.
  • Loyola enters the matchup 6-0-1 and had already clintched the MVC Regular Championship.
