EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer program wrapped up the 2020-21 season with highlights and accomplishments across the board.
With eight games begin played during the season the Purple Aces posted five shutouts with all three goalkeepers recording a shutout, while also avoiding dropping back-to-back games.
Evansville's defense had a standout year, finishing the season ranked second in the country in save percentage (.936), third in goals-against-average (.342) and 15
th in shutout percentage (.0625), while also ranking first in the Missouri Valley Conference in goals-against-average.
Senior goalkeeper Michaela Till finished the season ranked third in the NCAA in saves percentage (.929) and fifth in goals-against-average (.367). Till also earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week (4/6). Lauren Fischer also won Defensive Player of the Week on March 9, while Rachel Rosborough took Freshman of the Week honors on March 16.
The Aces placed four on the All-MVC Team, including Till (second team), Rosborough (freshman team), Emilie Hill and Abby Phelps (honorable mention). Hill also was named MVC All-Tournament Team, while Nicole Benati earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors.
UE claimed an historic win over Loyola on April 3, 2021. The victory against the then undefeated Ramblers, 1-0, marked the second win against Loyola in program history and the first since 1993. The game winning goal came off the head of Hill at the 26:56 mark. Coming off a cross from Benati, marking the first assist for her and the first career goal for Hill.
Additional highlights for the Aces focus on goalkeeper Georgia Katsonouri and midfielder Reilly Paterson, who both have earned chances to compete with their national teams, Cyprus and Jamaica respectively.
As a team the Evansville maintained a full year grade point average of 3.66, which was the best team GPA in the athletic department.
The Purple Aces are scheduled to return to the pitch in early August for the 2021 season.
