EVANSVILLE - Touting an unblemished record through six matches, the University of Evansville women's soccer team has earned a No. 5 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region Poll, it was announced Monday afternoon.
With a 4-0-2 record, the Aces sit behind TCU, Texas Tech, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State and ahead of reigning MVC champion Loyola Chicago and traditional powers Kansas and Baylor. UE moved up two spots in the rankings after sitting seventh last week.
"I am proud of this team and the hard work they put in not only this fall but last spring. I know we still have a lot to play for but it shows that we are headed in the right direction," said Aces head women's soccer coach Chris Pfau. "We have a great group who have enjoyed playing with each other and to see UE at #5 in the region is something every player should be excited about!" Â
Evansville is out to its best start in program history, surpassing the unbeaten streaks of the 1994 and 2001 teams who each started their respective seasons with four-straight results.
The Aces success can be traced back to a balanced team that is top 100 in the nation and second in the MVC in scoring and 58th in the nation in goals-against average, also second in The Valley. Between the posts, fifth-year senior Michaela Till has been a force, recording a pair of shutouts and stopping 87.5% of shots she has face, the 46th best percentage in NCAA DI. On the attack, Evansville has been able to rely on a variety of goal scorers, including four different game-winning goal scorers.
UE returns to action on Thursday on the road against Austin Peay at 6 PM in Clarksville, Tenn.
