EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following the postponement of Wednesday's game at Valparaiso, the University of Evansville men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Bradley at the Ford Center. ESPN+ and the Purple Aces Radio Network will have the coverage.
Schedule Update
- Schedule adjustments have been set following Wednesday's postponement
- UE will face the Beacons on Feb. 19 at the Ford Center with a new start time of 1 p.m.
- The road game is set for Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
- Trailing by seven at halftime, the Aces rallied to take a 4-point lead in the second half at Missouri State on Saturday before the Bears regrouped to finish with a 72-58 win
- Freshman Preston Phillips scored four points while setting a career-high 12 rebounds...his 12 boards tied for the top team total this season
- Jawaun Newton recorded 18 points while Shamar Givance scored 17...Newton added two blocks while Givance had four assists
- Evansville's defense held the Bears to 39.7% shooting - the lowest percentage UE has held a Valley team to in 2021-22
Taking Care of Business
- Senior Jawaun Newton led UE with 18 points at Missouri State while improving his season average to 13.8 PPG
- His total is second on the team and 13th in the MVC...Newton paces UE with 5.8 rebounds per game while ranking 10th in the Valley
- While his season shooting stands at 42.7%, he looks to reverse a recent trend that has seen him shoot 34.7% (26/75) over the last six games
- Since opening the season with 5 points at Cincinnati, Newton has averaged 14.2 points with his career game coming against Rice where he scored 30 points on a 12-of-25 shooting effort
Clutch Rebounds
- UE freshman Preston Phillips has been getting better and better as the season has progressed
- Making a total of 9 starts this season, Phillips has averaged 2.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while seeing an average of 19.9 minutes of work
- The rebounding for Phillips is what has evolved even more over the last three contests - during that span, he has hauled in an average of 7.33 caroms, which includes a career-high of 12 in the road game at Missouri State
Scouting the Opponent
- Bradley comes to the Ford Center with a 12-11 mark and are 6-5 in the MVC following a 78-65 loss at Northern Iowa on Wednesday
- The loss halted a 4-game win streak that included a road win at Drake on January 19
- Terry Roberts is the top performer for the Braves and leads the team with 15.8 points per game
- Roberts has also added team-highs in assists (106), steals (38) and 3-pointers (34)
- Three others average double figures including Rinek Mast (11.7 PPG), Ja'Shon Henry (10.4 PPG) and Malevy Leons (10.1 PPG)
- Mast averages a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game
