Evansville opened the 2022 season on Thursday night with a 3-0 loss to Southeastern Conference power Vanderbilt.  UE opened the homestand last weekend with an exhibition loss to Saint Louis University as well, although the Billikens proved their worth Thursday night by defeating #8 Arkansas, 1-0.  Now, UE will look for its first points of the season standings-wise against a new-look Austin Peay squad on Sunday.

Evansville and Austin Peay played to a 1-1 draw last September in Clarksville, Tennessee.  The Governors are under the direction now of first-year head coach Kim McGowan.  McGowan guided Austin Peay to a scoreless draw Thursday at Miami (OH), a team the Governors lost to last year 2-0.  Eight different Governors fired shots in the draw, led by freshman forward Ellie Dreas with two.

"Despite the loss last night to Vanderbilt, I actually saw a lot of growth and a lot of positives in our play," said UE head coach Chris Pfau.  "We likely will not see the same level of game speed that we saw against both Vanderbilt and Saint Louis the rest of the season, so hopefully, playing those matches will make us better as we go forward with our season.

"The key for us is to continue to build on what we have been working on in training and in these first two games.  We made improvements in a lot of areas against Vanderbilt from our first match against Saint Louis, and we have to continue to make improvements on Sunday against Austin Peay."
