Walk-off single gives UE softball 10-9 win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Trailing by a score of 9-6 heading into the bottom of the 7th, the University of Evansville softball team scored four times to earn a 10-9 walk-off victory over Bowling Green at Tri-State Orthopaedics Field at James & Dorothy Cooper Stadium on Sunday.  Evansville is now 13-1 on the season.

Taylor Howe hit a bases-clearing double to tie the game in the 7th before Marah Wood singled up the middle to bring in the game-winner.  Howe was 3-4 in the game with four RBI and three runs scored.  Jenna Nink was 2-2 with two RBI and a run while Zoe Frossard picked up two hits and an RBI.
 
Megan Brenton took the win in the circle as she recorded the final out in the seventh.  Mikayla Jolly gave up five runs in 1 1/3 innings before Elle Jarrett and Sydney Weatherford combined to give up an unearned run in 3 2/3 innings of work.  Erin Kleffman allowed three runs in 1 2/3.
 
Bowling Green opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first.  A bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly accounted for the runs.  The Falcons tacked on three runs in the second on a 3-run shot by Peyton Dolejs.
 
Jess Willsey hit a 1-out triple in the third to put the Aces on the scoreboard.  Her hit brought in Kaylee Lawson, who reached on a fielder's choice.  Taylor Howe singled up the middle to score Willsey before Alexa Davis drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 5-3 score as the game headed into the third.
 
After the Falcons added their sixth run of the afternoon, UE cut the deficit to just a run when Jenna Nink hit a 2-run double to left.  Hannah Hood and Davis crossed the plate on Nink's hit.  Bowling Green go those runs right back in the top half of the sixth to solidify an 8-5 advantage.
 
Zoe Frossard got one of those runs right back in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single up the middle to bring in Taylor Howe, who led off with a double.  Jenna Nink and Sydney Kalonihea reached on walks before Willsey singled to load the bases with no outs in the seventh.  With one out, Taylor Howe hit a bases-clearing double to tie the game at 9-9. 
 
Marah Wood put the finishing touches on the game, singling up the middle to bring in Howe and give the Aces a 10-9 walk-off win.  Next weekend, the Aces will be in Bowling Green, Ky. for the Hilltopper Spring Fling.
