EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Zoe Frossard recorded two hits while Sydney Kalonihea added her first home run as the University of Evansville softball team dropped a 6-3 game to SIU Edwardsville on Tuesday evening at Tri-State Orthopaedics Field at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium.

Aside from her effort at the plate, Frossard made a diving grab in left field to prevent a hit by the Cougars. For Kalonihea, it was her third hit in the last three games and first homer in a Purple Aces uniform.

SIUE wasted little time in taking the lead as three runs would cross the plate in the top half of the first. The Cougars recorded two hits in the inning. Their 3-0 lead would remain steady until the top of the fourth when three more runs doubled their advantage. SIUE added four more hits in the inning.

Evansville picked up its first run and first hit in the bottom of the fourth. Alexa Davis reached on a leadoff walk and with two outs it was Jess Willsey picking up the hit to make it a 6-1 game.

Zoe Frossard led off the bottom of the fifth with a hit before a 2-out double from Marah Wood saw Evansville look to get even closer but pinpoint throws by the Cougar defense threw Frossard out at home to maintain the 6-1 lead.

Down to its final three outs, the Aces staged a late rally as Frossard picked up her second hit of the day and Sydney Kalonihea followed with her first collegiate home run to cut the deficit to 6-3. Marah Wood added the seventh UE hit of the day before the Cougars registered the final out to take the win.

Sydney Weatherford allowed three runs, one earned, in two innings and suffered her sixth loss of the season. Kelsey Ray went 6 2/3 innings for SIUE with three earned runs crossing the plate. Ray earned win #5 of the season while Sydney Baalman was credited with her first save of the year.
