EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team will return home to Arad McCutchan Stadium on Thursday night to host the Bellarmine University Knights in non-conference action. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
UE will enter Thursday night's contest at 0-1-2 on the year after falling to unbeaten Indiana University, 1-0, on Sunday in front of a McCutchan Stadium women's soccer-record crowd of 1,072 fans. The Hoosiers were able to get a first-half goal on a rebound and made it stand up, as they held off the Purple Aces to hand UE its first defeat of the year. The goal scored by IU is the only goal allowed so far this year by UE senior goalkeeper Myia Danek and the UE defense.
Danek will enter Thursday night's match ranked in the NCAA's top 50 in five different goalkeeping categories. She ranks 15th nationally in saves per game at 7.00, while also ranking in the nation's top 25 in shutouts (23rd – two) and save percentage (25th - .955). Danek also ranks 28th in total saves and 41st in goals against average this season.
Bellarmine, meanwhile, will enter Thursday night's match with a 1-1-1 overall record, after beating the University of Indianapolis, 1-0, on Sunday. Senior forward Brielle Heuglin scored her second goal of the season in the 73rd minute to give Bellarmine its first victory of the year. Heuglin and junior midfielder Emma Nicholson have combined for 18 of the Knights' 39 shots so far this year, and three of Bellarmine's four goals overall.
UE and Bellarmine have met only once before, as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw in 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. Thursday night's game will not be televised, but live stats will be available on-line at GoPurpleAces.com.
