ST. LOUIS – After enjoying a season filled with record-breaking performances, six University of Evansville student-athletes have been named to the MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Lauren Bradley (Russiaville, Ind./Western) earns a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team after competing in six meets for the Purple Aces this season. Bradley set personal bests in the 4k, 5k and 6k, including an 8
th place finish at the Panther Prowl with a 5k time of 20:05.6. A Neuroscience and Psychology major, Bradley carries a 3.91 GPA.
Avery Stephens (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) lands on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team after serving as one of the most consistent runners on Evansville's women's team. Stephens notched two top ten finishes, including a second-place finish at the Panther Prowl, and set personal bests in the 4k, 5k, and 6k. At the MVC Championship, Stephens was one of two Aces to net a top 50 finish. Stephens holds a 3.89 GPA in Exercise Science.
Chase Hayes (Noblesville, Ind./Western) receives MVC Scholar-Athlete recognition after an outstanding sophomore campaign. Hayes was the Aces' top finisher in all five races that she finished, winning the Panther Prowl and posting the fourth-best 6k time in program history at the Angle Mounds Invitational. Hayes also earned a top 5 finish at the Stegemoller Twilight. An Exercise Science major at UE, Hayes maintains a 3.54 GPA.
Owen Cuplin (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) earns MVC Scholar-Athlete honors after posting personal bests in the 6k and 8k this year. Cuplin competed in four meets for the Aces, including a 38
th-place finish at the Stegemoller Twilight and a finish of 65
th at the John McNichols Invitational. Cuplin owns a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science.
Cedrik Flipo (Beloeil, Quebec, Canada/Heritage Regional) receives Scholar-Athlete recognition after competing in four meets for the Aces this season. Flipo ran a season-best mark at the MVC Championship at Angel Mounds, placing 5
th on the team and 60
th overall. The junior is a Management major at UE, maintaining a 3.55 GPA.
Samuel Lea (Worcester, United Kingdom/Worcester Sixth Form College) adds MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honors in what has been one of the finest seasons in program history. At the Gans Creek Classic, Lea broke the program record with a 24:14.4 8k, while also putting forth two more performances this season that landed him on the program's all-time list. Lea earned an individual victory at the John McNichols Invitational and earned Evansville's first All-Conference performance by a men's runner since 2006 at the MVC Championship, finishing 8
th. An Environmental Science major, Lea owns a 3.55 GPA.
