Annual Acespys event held on Wednesday evening

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Wednesday evening, the University of Evansville Athletics Department honored the accomplishments of its student-athletes at the annual Acespys event on campus.

A multitude of awards are given out that were voted on prior to the event.  The categories and winners are below.  With the event being held annually in the middle of the spring semester, awards recognize the achievements of the fall and winter of the 2024-25 season along with the spring sport participants from the spring of 2024.

-       Sports Performance Athletes of the Year – Ty Rumsey (baseball) and Maddie Rollett (women's diving)

-       Comeback Athlete of the Year – Jon Varela (men's soccer)

-       A.C.E.S. Award – Kaylee Lawson (softball)

-       Male Freshman of the Year – Kenton Deverman (baseball)

-       Female Freshman of the Year – Camryn Runner (women's basketball)

-       Moment of the Year – Baseball dog pile following 2024 MVC Championship victory

-       Male Sophomore of the Year – Max Hansmann (baseball)

-       Female Sophomore of the Year – Kate Petrova (women's golf)

-       Record-Breaking Performance of the Year – Giulia Cardona (volleyball) – 2,000 career kills

-       Male Junior of the Year – Connor Turnbull (men's basketball)

-       Female Junior of the Year – Zoe Frossard (softball)

-       Game of the Year – Baseball win over East Carolina to clinch Greenville NCAA Regional

-       Male Senior of the Year – Kip Fougerousse (baseball)

-       Female Senior of the Year – Giulia Cardona (volleyball)

-       Assistant Coach of the Year – Matt Melzer (men's soccer)

-       Male 5th Year Athlete of the Year – Mark Shallenberger (baseball)

-       Female 5th Year Athlete of the Year – Maddie Rollett (women's diving)

-       Coach of the Year – Wes Carroll (baseball)

-       Best Male Athlete of the Year – Kenton Deverman (baseball)

-       Best Female Athlete of the Year – Kate Petrova (women's golf)

-       Team of the Year – Baseball

-       Director of Athletics Leadership Award – Mallory Russell (women's golf)

-       Jim Byers Award – given to staff members who exemplify former UE AD Jim Byers – Logan Belz and Marisa Morales

-       For The Aces Award – Raymond Felton III (men's track and field)

Community service awards were presented to the student-athletes from each class who accumulated the most hours of service.  As a whole, the department served a total of 137 organizations for 5,292.5 hours.  The honorees were freshmen Jack Hawkins (men's track and field) and Eliza Piggott (softball), sophomores Tyler Myers (men's basketball) and Trinity Dubbs (women's golf), juniors Daniil Romashkin (men's golf) and Destynie Sheridan (women's golf) and seniors Antwaun Powell (men's track) and Mallory Russell (women's golf).

Volleyball was the top performing team, averaging 66.94 hours per student-athlete.  Women's golf was second at 62.19 with softball in third at 31.88.

During the event, live voting was taken for awards including Class Clown, Best Style of the Year, Most Athletic Couple, Purple Friday Enthusiast, and Dynamic Duo.
