Piggott’s home run helps UE advance

DES MOINES, Iowa – Eliza Piggott's 3-run home run lifted the University of Evansville softball team to a 9-6 victory over Indiana State in the opening round of the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Buel Field.  With the win, the Purple Aces advance to face No. 3 seed UNI on Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m.
Box Score
The game began on Wednesday evening before weather halted the game in the third inning.  Following a 1-hour delay, the remainder of the contest was pushed to a 9 a.m. start on Thursday morning with Indiana State holding a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Evansville got right to work, taking its first lead scoring four runs in the top of the fourth.  Walks by Morgan Adams, Jess Willsey, and Zoe Frossard loaded the bases for Miriah Powell.  She came through with a bases-clearing single to tie the game at 3-3.  Powell later gave UE the lead as she crossed the plate when Keghan Pye reached on an error.

Indiana State retook the lead with a 3-run bottom of the fifth to go back up by a score of 6-4.  The Aces took advantage of three Sycamore errors to push the tying runs across the plate in the top half of the sixth.  With the game stilled tied at 6-6 entering the seventh, UE made its move.  Frossard led off with a walk while Powell reached on an ISU error.  That brought Eliza Piggott to the plate, and she hit a home run to left field to put her squad back on top.

Kate Ridgway retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.  She earned her sixth win of the season as she allowed an unearned run in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Six players recorded a hit for UE while Frossard and Powell recorded two runs apiece.
