EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day this weekend by hosting a free National Girls and Women in Sports Day clinic on Saturday, in association with Ascension St. Vincent, for area students aged eighth grade or younger. Saturday marked the third consecutive year that UE has held the event.

The event saw 125 local youth engage in a variety of activities led by UE women's sports teams. Programs that helped lead the event included women's basketball, soccer, softball, golf, volleyball, cross country, track & field, Aces Spirit, and the UE athletic training department. The event was led by UE Assistant Athletics Director for Administration Morgan McDowell, with assistance from UE volleyball student-athlete Lexi Owen.

"National Girls and Women in Sports Day is one of the most special days on our calendar at the University of Evansville. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Ascension St. Vincent, we are able to create an experience that so many young girls, like my own, look forward to each year," said UE Director of Athletics Dr. Ziggy Siegfried. "Seeing our UE student-athletes spend time with our local youth, while sharing their passion, confidence, and joy, is incredibly meaningful. Thank you to everyone who came out, and especially to our women student-athletes for being such powerful role models."

In addition to the clinic, participants received a ticket voucher to any UE women's sporting event this season.
