LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Riley Rosneck recorded a match-high 20 kills to lead Purdue Fort Wayne to a 3-1 win over the University of Evansville volleyball team at the Bellarmine Classic.
 
Freshman Lyla Fisher led the Purple Aces with 12 kills while hitting a solid .211. Ryan Scheu added eight kills while Wren Jones finished with seven in her college debut. Carsyn Kelley tallied 29 assists while Kendall Agler completed the day with 13 digs.
 
Set 1 – PFW 25, UE 16
 
In the early moments, the teams battled to a 5-5 tie with a Makenzie Miller kill knotting the score. The Mastodons came back with six in a row to go up 11-5 and force an Aces time out. Following the stoppage, UE scored the next two before Purdue Fort Wayne answered to take its largest lead at 16-9.
 
Two kills from Ryan Scheu along with an ace by Sabrina Ripple saw the Aces storm back to make it a 2-point game at 18-16. Lyla Fisher's kill made it a 2-point game. The Mastodons answered once again, scoring the final seven points to clinch the set.
 
Set 2 – PFW 25, UE 18
 
Recording eight of the first nine point, Purdue Fort Wayne took an 8-1 advantage out of the game to open the second set. After Evansville cut the deficit to five, the Mastodons used another big run to go up 18-7. Lexi Owen picked up a pair of service aces in a 9-2 run that made it a 20-16 game. PFW overcame the rally to take a 25-18 decision and a 2-0 match lead.
 
Set 3 – UE 26, PFW 24
 
Kills from Sabrina Ripple and Wren Jones, along with a service ace by Carsyn Kelley, gave the Aces a 4-1 lead to begin the third frame. The Mastodons came back to take their first lead at 8-7 before going up 11-8. Another kill by Miller opened a 4-0 stretch that put UE back on top.
 
Trailing 15-14, UE turned the tables with a 5-0 rally. A kill by Fisher and an ace from Ripple highlighted the run as the Aces took their largest advantage.  Another kill by Kelley gave the Aces set point up 24-19. Purdue Fort Wayne staged a furious rally scoring five in a row to tie the score. Evansville regained the lead on an error before an ace by Kelley sealed the win.
 
Set 4 – PFW 25, UE 15
 
The Mastodons opened the set with a 6-2 lead and extended it to 12-5. Miller and Wren Jones picked up kills that made it a 14-9 game, however, PFW regained control and pulled away to clinch the match on the strength of a 25-15 win.
 
On Saturday the Aces take on Rutgers (12 p.m. CST) and Bellarmine (5 p.m. CST) to complete the tournament.
