Biography

2007-08 – Goes into senior year ranked first in free throws made (207), third in scoring (836) and third in rebounds (368) among returning MVC players... Honorable Mention All-MVC as a junior...member of MVC Most Improved Team...team co-captain...UE’s scoring leader at 14.4, fifth highest in the league...his 431 points surpassed his entire scoring total from his first two seasons (405)...received the team's Greg Bordfeld Spirit of the Aces award...more than doubled his number of free throws from the previous season, hitting 114 of 147...became a strong inside presence despite his lack of size...finished seventh in the MVC in defensive rebounds (4.17)...scored 20 points or more seven times, with a career-high 28 against Illinois State and Creighton...slowed early in the year by a pre-season knee injury before averaging 17.3 points over the final 16 games...set a school record for single-game free throw percentage by hitting all 18 in a Feb. 13 victory over Creighton, two games after going 12-for-12 at the line in a win against Wichita State.

2006-07 – UE’s sixth man most of the season...starter in the first two games and final two games...fifth on the team in scoring (6.9), fifth in rebounding (2.9) and third in assists (1.9)...versatile player who played forward and also backed up Jason Holsinger at point guard...best player on the team at scoring off the dribble...improved his shooting percentage from 41 percent as a freshman to 49 as a sophomore...scored a career-high 18 against Missouri State in 63-56 win on January 21...hit 25 of his final 43 shots (.581) over his last 10 games...grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in UE’s victory at Indiana State.

2005-06 – Member of the MVC All-Freshman Team along with UE teammate Jason Holsinger...fifth in scoring (6.6) and third in rebounding (4.3)...scored only two points in his first five games, then averaged 10.6 the rest of the season...started in all 18 MVC games, and scored a career-high 16 at Bradley... added 15 in UE’s first round MVC Tournament win March 2 against Illinois State...youngest player on the team, having just turned 18 in July, 2005.

HIGH SCHOOL – First team West Central Conference as a junior and senior... second team all-Marion County...member of the Marion County All-Stars for the Jermaine O’Neal Shoot-Out...averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a senior...Speedway’s MVP...led coach Chuck Bennett’s Sparkplugs to 12-10 record as a senior, the school's first winning season in three years.

PERSONAL – Shyron Quonell Ely...born July 16, 1987 in Washington, Pa....son of Shy-Quon and Jean Ely...has two older siblings...sister, Shyra, is a three-year veteran of the WNBA after playing her college ball at Tennessee...brother, Shy-Quon, played for the American Basketball Association’s Indianapolis AlleyCats...on target to graduate in May with a degree in criminal justice.
