Biography
At UE – Andrew Gher will vie for UE’s starting catcher position this spring...A solid defensive catcher with a strong arm...Understands the game and handles the pitching staff well...Also provides UE with another option from the right-side offensively.
2008 – Played in 25 games with 17 starts behind home plate...Threw out nine would-be base stealers in 17 starts...Hit .184 offensively...Collected his first career hit at Radford (3/1)...Recorded his first career multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 effort against Wright State (3/9), while also throwing out two would-be base stealers...Swiped his first base against Chicago State (5/4)...Led the team with seven sacrifice hits...Had three sacrifice bunts and a hit-by-pitch in UE’s 6-3 win over #10 Wichita State.
2007 – Did not appear in a game...Played with the Evansville Outlaws over the summer.
2006 – Appeared in two games as a reserve catcher...Made his collegiate debut in UE’s 17-5 victory over Maryland (2/19)...Also caught the ninth inning of UE’s 10-0 victory over Murray State (4/19)...Did not have a plate appearance.
Background – Lettered three years in baseball at Evansville Harrison...Hit .297 his senior year with three home runs...Played in the Junior All-Star Showcase...Helped the Warriors to a regional runner-up finish in 2003...His uncle, John, played basketball and baseball at Georgia Tech (1958-62)...Majoring in finance ...Chose UE because it was close to home and his family would be able to see him play.
