2009 – Pitched in 17 games for the Purple Aces, with eight starts...Went 2-5 with a 7.19 ERA...Led UE and ranked 11th in the MVC with 63 strikeouts...Ranked 50th nationally with 10.07 Ks/9 IP, as his 63 strikeouts came in just 56.1 innings of work...Earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and State Farm MVC Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing UE’s first no-hitter since 2005 with a complete-game, seven-inning no-hit effort vs. SIU-Edwardsville (5/2)...Struck out a season-high 11 while issuing just a walk and a HBP in the no-hitter...Also beat NCAA Tournament participant Wichita State, 5-3, by scattering three runs on seven singles over 5.0 innings of work on just two days rest (4/11)...Held teams to a .200 average (13-for-65) with two outs.
At John A. Logan College – Played in the inaugural NJCAA Freshman All-Star Series in Millington, Tennessee in 2007 alongside UE junior Cody Fick...Went 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA as a freshman at Logan, holding opponents to a .179 batting average in 36.2 innings of work...Ranked second on the team in victories as a sophomore going 5-6 with a 3.19 ERA in 84.2 innings of work...Led the Volunteers with 95 strikeouts in 84.2 innings of work...In his two-year career at John A. Logan, he struck out 137 men against 59 walks in 121.1 innings of work (10.2 strikeouts per nine innings).
Background – Drafted in the 41st round of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves...An all-conference performer in baseball, basketball, football and track at Carmi-White County High School in Illinois...Posted a 22-3 career record with four saves and a 1.90 ERA in 39 games on the mound for the Bulldogs...Led Carmi-White County to four-straight regional titles in baseball...Also holds the Bulldogs’ pass-catching record in football, was a member of the 1,000-Point Club in basketball, and broke two school records in track...A writing major at UE...Chose UE because of the “all around superior reputation, the nice city, and it’s close to home.”
