Biography
At UE – Tom Heithoff returns this spring to once again anchor UE’s infield and pitching staff...In the field, is a Gold Glove-caliber first baseman with tremendous defensive skills and instincts...On the mound, possesses a live arm and a good three-pitch mix and will contend for a spot in UE’s weekend rotation...Offensively, provides UE with good power potential from the right side.
2009 – A second-team all-MVC selection at relief pitcher...Pitched in 23 games with two starts...Went 4-3 with a 2.87 ERA, while ranking second in the MVC with eight saves...Recorded a win or save in 12 of UE’s 25 victories...Struck out 32 men against just seven walks in 37.2 innings of work, while holding the opposition to a .217 average...Recorded saves against such teams as Creighton (4/4), NCAA Tournament participant Wichita State (4/11), #25 Illinois (5/6) and #30 Missouri State (4/24)...Also played in 39 games, with 33 starts at first base...Hit .303 with five doubles, four triples, a home run, and 25 RBI in 132 at-bats...Tied for second on the team with seven stolen bases...After moving into the every-day line-up on 4/11, hit .330 (30-for-91) with eight of his 10 extra-base hits and 11 of his 13 multi-hit games in UE’s final 23 games...Went a season-best 3-for-5, including the game-winning hit, in UE’s 7-6 extra-inning win over SIU-Edwardsville (5/2)...Hit a home run and had a season-best three RBI vs. Southern Illinois (5/15).
2008 – Earned a medical redshirt...Did pitch in one game, going 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in 3.1 innings of work...Played in 10 games offensively, with five starts at first base...Had a double in his first career at-bat at Winthrop (2/23).
At NIACC – Earned NJCAA Division II third team All-America honors in 2007 at NIACC...Earned Region XI Player of the Year honors after hitting .406 with 17 doubles, 12 home runs, and 67 RBI offensively and going 6-1 with a 3.15 ERA on the mound with 58 strikeouts in 45.2 innings of work...Was seventh nationally in home runs, third in RBI, and would have ranked fifth in strikeouts per inning, had he qualified.
Background – Two-time all-state selection at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa...Majoring in sport management at UE...Choose UE “because of the opportunity to play Division I baseball while getting a very good education.”
