Spring 2012: Completed career with the third-lowest average at UE since 1990 (75.13)...named a 2012 MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention player...finished his senior season with the second-lowest average in 2011-12 with a 75.38...came home in a tie for 53rd at the Samford Intercollegiate...followed that up with a tie for 18th at the Don Benbow Invitational as UE took third-place honors, tallied a 71 and a 77 in the outing...picked up a top ten finish at the Butler Invitational, tying for 10th with rounds of 74 and 76...grabbed his third top-20 finish of the spring at the Battle of the Warren, tying for 20th with a pair of 77's.

Fall 2011: Played in all 14 rounds for UE, tallying a 78 or lower each time out...tied for team-low in scoring average (74.21 strokes per round)...began the season with a 29th place finish at Fossum Invitational (74-76-76)...shot a pair of 70's at Butler to finish in a tie for 16th with a 2-over 218...finished in top six in final two tournaments...tied for firth at UD Invitational with a +1 145 (75-70) before wrapping up the fall with a 9-over 223 at SIUE Intercollegiate to tie for 6th place (73-72-78).

2010-11: On target to produce UE's second lowest career stroke average since 1990...UE's #1 player for the second straight year, with a 74.16 average...number one ranked player in Missouri Valley Conference in the fall with a 71.4 average...medalist in 66-player Butler Invitational (66-66-69=201); 66 was just two shy of Chris Bouchard's UE record for 18 holes...earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors for his win at Butler...fifth out of 85 at Dayton Invitational (74-73=147), seventh out of 82 at Michigan State Fossum Classic (75-74=149) and 17th of 81 at Skyhawk Classic (72-70-75=217)...averaged 76.0 in the spring, but had two strong tournaments after a slow start, finishing 9th of 78 at Hoosier Invitational (76-69-68=213) and 12th of 88 at Yestingsmeier Invitational (72-75-76=223)...came in 24th at MVC Championship (76-78-82=236)...honorable mention selection on 2011 MVC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team.

2009-10: #1 player on the team with a 74.70 stroke average...shot 78 or lower in 22 of his 24 rounds...just missed making the all-Missouri Valley Conference team, finishing eighth among 45 at the MVC Tournament...third out of 90 at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate (70-67-71=208), fourth of 83 at the BSU Cardinal Collegiate (76-72-72=220), 16th of 99 in the fall at the Dayton Flyer Invitational (69-82=151).

2008-09: Came on strong late in his freshman year to produce the team’s third best stroke average for 2008-09...#1 for UE in the spring season with a 75.62 average...led the Aces at the Adidas Hoosier Invitational (72-69-73=214) by finishing sixth out of 85, and at the State Farm MVC Championship (78-75-76=229) by finishing 11th in a field of 45...also finished 19th out of 75 at the Ball State Invitational (75-77=152)...#5 on the squad in the fall with a 77.0 average...best finish was 47th out of 87 at the John Dallio Memorial (78-79-72=229).

High School: Finished 29th at IHSA 3A state finals...three-time all-conference and four-time academic all-conference player...averaged 36.9 for nine holes and 73.5 for 18...won three high school events...also lettered three years in tennis.

Background: Michael Granflor Sainz...born June 1, 1990 in Chicago, Ill...son of Carlos and Rose Sainz...has one brother, Carlos, who finished 55th in the 2008 NCAA Golf Championship for Mississippi State...excellent student who is majoring in mechanical engineering.
