Biography
At UE – Andy Smith will once again battle for a starting spot on the UE infield this spring...Can play both middle infield positions, as well as third base...Hoping to build on a strong offensive junior campaign this year in his final season at UE.
2008 – Consistent starter on the infield for UE, playing in 50 games with 48 starts at both shortstop and third base...Hit a career-best .291 with five doubles, a triple, and two home runs...Drove in 18 runs with 30 runs scored...Second on the team with 22 walks...Third on the team with 14 multi-hit games, and second with six multi-RBI games...Went 5-for-8 in a doubleheader at Radford (3/2), with a career-high four RBI in game two...Went a career-best 4-for-5 with three runs scored vs. Chicago State (5/4)... Went 7-for-14 with three multi-hit games in UE’s series with Bradley (3/21 - 3/23)...Hit .353 (6-for-17) with a double, a home run, and five runs scored in six starts vs. nationally-ranked teams...Hit home runs against Austin Peay (4/23) and Wichita State (5/11) at home.
2007 – Saw action in 38 games, with 21 starts at both second and third base...Started 16 of UE’s final 18 games...Hit .218 with a double, a home run, and 11 RBI...Went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI at Saint Louis (3/21)...Missed over three weeks due to a hamstring injury after the SLU game...Went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in UE’s 4-1 win at #7 Wichita State (4/28)...Launched his first career home run vs. Bradley in the MVC Tournament (5/23)...Played for the Dubois County Bombers of the Central Illinois Collegiate League in the summer, helping the Bombers to the league title.
2006 – Played in 19 games, including seven starts on the UE infield as a rookie...Hit .194 (6-for-31) with a double and seven RBI.
