Biography

At UE - Mark Murray returns for his final season with UE this spring...One of the top relief pitchers in UE history, as he ranks third all-time in school history with 15 career saves...Expected to vie for a spot in the UE rotation this spring after an unbelievable summer season. 2006 - Led the UE pitching staff with 23 appearances on the mound, all in relief...Posted a 1-2 record, two saves, and a 2.83 ERA in 35.0 IP...Recorded 30 strikeouts against only 10 walks...Posted 12 scoreless relief appearances...Allowed just three earned runs in his final 11 appearances spanning 20.0 IP (1.35 ERA)...Struck out 20 men against only four walks in those final 11 appearances...Struck out a season-high five men vs. South Carolina (6/5)...Ranked as the eighth-best prospect in the New England Collegiate Baseball League by Baseball America this summer, after going 1-0 with a league-record 20 saves and a 0.00 ERA in 26 games for the Vermont Mountaineers...Gave up just 13 singles, while striking out 36 en route to earning the NECBL’s “Top Relief Pitcher Award." 2005 - Finished in the NCAA’s Top 20 with an MVC-leading 12 saves...Also led UE with six wins...On watch lists for the NCBWA’s Stopper of the Year Award and the Roger Clemens Award...A second-team all-MVC pick...Went 6-4 with a 4.46 ERA in 26 appearances, including one start...Tossed 16 scoreless relief appearances...Tossed 2.0 innings of no-hit relief vs. #19 Washington (2/27) to record a save...One of the top relief pitchers in the NECBL for Vermont, as he recorded 11 saves, a 0.32 ERA, and did not allow an extra-base hit in 28.1 IP. 2004 - Went 1-1 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 10 appearances...Earned his first victory vs. Creighton in the MVC Tournament (5/28)...Notched his first save at Northern Iowa (5/15). Background - Lettered in both baseball and football at Evansville Memorial...Named sectional MVP for the Tigers as a senior...Posted a career ERA of 2.21, and ranked third in the Tri-State in saves in 2003...An Academic All-City selection as well...A biochemistry major...Chose UE for its strong academics and strong baseball program.
