At UE – Mark Obenchain will enter his fourth season with the UE program this season...Will help anchor the UE bullpen this spring...A three-pitch pitcher with good command of the strike zone.

2008 – Saw his first action as a Purple Ace after battling injury his first two years at UE...Split time between UE’s starting rotation and bullpen, pitching in 16 games with eight starts...Went 2-6 with an 8.36 ERA in 56.0 innings of work...Ranked third on the team in strikeouts with 28...Tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of one-hit baseball in his UE debut at Radford (3/2)...Earned his first win by allowing just an unearned run in 5.2 innings of relief work at Murray State (4/9), while striking out a career-best five...Tossed a complete-game victory in UE’s 6-5 win over Indiana State (4/20)...Did not give up a hit in 2.0 innings of work at Austin Peay (5/7).

2007 – Slowed while recovering from a freak knee injury suffered during his freshman year...Got stronger throughout the course of the year, and earned a spot on UE’s 25-man roster at the end of the season...Did not appear in a game.

2006 – Earned a medical redshirt after tearing two knee ligaments, a tendon, and a muscle in practice during his freshman year...Did not appear in a game.

Background – A two-sport standout at nearby Evansville Memorial High School...Lettered three years in baseball and two years in basketball for the Tigers...A three-time Academic All-City selection as a member of the National Honor Society...Helped the Tigers to a runner-up finish in Indiana’s Class 3A as a senior...Tossed a complete-game shutout over Batesville High School in the 2005 semi-state championship game...Younger brother of former UE All-America pitcher and Oakland Athletics 2002 first round draft pick Steve Obenchain, who pitched at UE from 2000-2002...Majoring in health services administration...Chose Evansville because of its strong academics.
