At UE – Dan Holcomb returns for his third season as a member of the UE pitching staff this spring...Fully healthy now after missing the entire 2007 season due to injury...Has continued to develop his breaking ball during the off-season.
2008 – Made eight relief appearances in his first season back from injury...Posted an 11.00 ERA in 9.0 innings of work...Tossed a season-best 2.0 scoreless innings of no-hit baseball in his final outing of the year at NCAA Tournament participant Eastern Illinois (5/13)...Did not give up a hit in his final two relief appearances.
2007 – Earned a medical redshirt...Missed the entire 2007 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery for an injury sustained during the summer before attending UE.
Background – “Mr. Baseball” in the state of Michigan in 2006...Went 15-0 with a 0.73 ERA and nearly two strikeouts per inning...Posted a career 45-1 record...Tossed nine no-hitters and four perfect games in his career...Once threw a no-hitter and a perfect game in back-to-back games as a junior...Went 17-0 with a 1.58 ERA as a junior en route to first team all-state honors...Helped Homer to two state titles and a 143-6 record in four years, including a 113-2 record over his final three years in high school...Helped Homer set a national record with 75-straight wins from 2004 to 2005...Also served as Homer’s valedictorian...Majoring in business...Chose Evansville because “UE had the best coaching staff and program and they could help me improve.”
