We offer our sincerest apologies on a two-week delay. We’ve gotten several requests, and quite frankly some demanding fanmail, about when our next post would be. Apparently our Spring Break state of mind has affected our work flow, and we just now found the time to sit down and recap what’s been happening. Since we have so much to cover, we’re going to switch up the formats and hit you with a quick shot of the
UE Softball’s Top Ten of the past two weeks.
UE Softball’s Top Ten of Spring Break
1. Taking full advantage of “sarcasm time” on a daily basis, including all the puns, innuendoes and high-quality sass that we have in us.
2. The entire sophomore class turnin’ on their swag and dropping bombs like it’s their job. Extra props to Amy Gaertner who is currently in the lead of the home run race.
3. Our 6-4 victory over nationally-recognized Lipscomb, snapping their 17-game winning streak. Own that, Bisons!
4. Roadtripping all weekend in a utility van, which we insisted on referring to as “The Swagger-Wagon”, despite Coach Redburn’s skepticism.
5. Quality time spent at our team dinners during Spring Break!
6. Our team trip to the movie theater to watch Shutter Island. Our review: B+, Definitely a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it’s not as scary as it seems in the previews.
7. Coincidentally running into pretty much the whole team at the mall on our off-day. Apparently the rest of the team is dealing with the same shopping addiction that we are suffering from!
8. Transforming ourselves into bleaching/painting/landscaping fools as we tackled the spring-cleaning chores of the field and locker room. Hey, we’ll take cleaning over conditioning any day.
9. Spending our nights watching SNL’s Best of Will Ferrell. In our 22 years on Earth, we have yet to meet anybody that doesn’t need more cowbell (except for Ashley Elber, who might actually hate cowbells).
10. Allison Aguilera’s poor charade performances at team lunches. It’s pretty safe to say that nobody’s holding their breath for any Oscars in the future! (Sorry Al, but it’s our duty to tell the truth to the readers!)
We wind down our preseason schedule this week at Middle Tennessee State, and then start our conference play on Wednesday with a double header at SIU, followed by a weekend at Bradley. We have had a few bumps in our season thus far, but hopefully we’ve learned from our mistakes and will continue to capitalize on our strengths in order to come out strong for our 2010 MVC debut. We hope to see you all at the ball fields this week, and for those of you that can’t, be sure to check in with our blog for all the updates (We’re serious this time, no more spring break excuses!). Keep the comments coming, and as always, you stay hot Evansville!

There’s nothing like counting down the days until the first games of the season… that is, unless you’ve already made it through the countdown only to add on a good nine more days to the practice plans! But now that we’re in the final stretch and it’s GAME WEEK (…again), the team is getting geared up and ready to put it all on the line this weekend! Not to mention, we’re all pretty freaking pumped about the thought of playing on actual dirt- CAN I GET AN AMEN!
For Love of the Game (All things softball):
Since Al Gore and global warming took their toll on the entire continental United States, our first games were unfortunately snowed out. The open slot in our schedule gave us plenty of time to hit the Armory and get in some more practice and inter-squad scrimmage games so that we head off to Chattanooga this weekend even more prepared and focused. Our scrimmages unfortunately didn’t quite live up to their potential due to a significant portion of the team coming down sick (and by significant, we mean that it was the pitchers and catchers, which are obviously the most important people on the field… JOKES!!). Even though the practice plans had to be modified to adapt to our 10-player team, we got a lot accomplished, and we’re ready get to work on the field this weekend!
Outside the Lines (Shenanigans, jokes, and other entertaining stories):
With the game cancellations, our team found themselves in Evansville to celebrate Valentine’s Day. However, it just so happens that a majority of the team is single (you heard right fellas—holla atcha’ girl!), so we chose to celebrate Jamie and Krista’s 22nd birthday with a V-day lunch at Old Chicago. It was a great way spend some time together off the field, and if a free birthday cookie is involved, hey, we’re not complaining!
We regret to inform you that we aren’t full of hilarious anecdotes of our crazy adventures on the bus, but those are hopefully on the way! In the mean time, we’d like to thank our loyal fans for their comments. It’s nice to know that you all love to read this blog as much as we like to write it! Although we are sometimes put off by her sass, athletic trainer Natalie Fishel seems to have done her fair share of work talking us up around the training room! (Which we believe is the reason our water bottles have seemed extra-cold lately…gotta love those star-status perks!) So keep those comments coming and you MAY just even get a fan shout-out in our next entry!!
We take off for the UT Chattanooga Tournament on Thursday to start the 2010 season off right! We hope to see you some of you in the stands (fingers crossed for good weather while you’re at it!). For those of you who can’t come we will be here with the updates after the weekend! Until then, you stay hot Evansville!

A Public Address to Our Loyal Fans and Avid Readers (or maybe it’s just our moms):
The long wait is finally over— back by popular demand, our blog is BACK IN BUSINESS! We thought about throwing in a few updates over the summer, but sticking to the motto “absence makes the heart grow fonder,” we managed to keep our witty commentary to ourselves until just the right moment.
So here it is, February 2010, and we find ourselves another year older, another year wiser, and getting better looking everyday! We’ve managed to keep ourselves busy with a few national appearances and autograph sessions since our last entry (you know, the usual business that comes with having a five-star blog…). But now we’re back to the grind and ready to kick start our senior season!
So far we’ve been preparing for our season with plenty of 6 a.m. workouts, late-night practices and more conditioning than your average track team, and we are really starting to see major improvements in our game. Coach Redburn has been working hard to get us geared up and focused to come out with a vengeance, and everybody is buying into his methods. We have some major goals to achieve, and we plan on making our presence known from the first day we step onto the field.
On Thursday we will head down to Troy, Alabama, for a three-game series to mark our first games of the 2010 season! We will be checking in with some game recaps and updates after the weekend for those of you who can’t make the trip! (Plus our renditions are always more amusing than the boring press releases!) We hope to see some of our fans in the stands- I know the clan of dads that cleverly refer to themselves as the “Rightfield Rascals” have been waiting for the season opener since last May!
As always, you stay hot Evansville!
Your faithful bloggers
Jen and Krista
PS- A quick shout out to our friends Doug Kufner and the Fox 7 News Crew (yeah, we know you check this blog for updates on your lunch break…), if you are interested in doing an interview with us, you can contact our people. It’ll be tough to squeeze you in between Oprah and Letterman, but we will try our best to make room in our busy schedule.

Hi ladies glad to see the blog again! I have been waiting for the 5 star communication to begin for months, and now the wait is over! I love hearing about the shenanigans that go on with all of you. Best of luck in Troy this weekend, hopefully there is less snow there than in Evansville so you can play some ball already. Waiting for the next entry! Shanna Rahming
