Matt Wollenzin

Matt Wollenzin is in his second season as the volunteer assistant for the University of Evansville baseball team.

A four-year letter-winner at Austin Peay, Wollenzin’s coaching duties at UE consist of working with the catchers as well as assisting Cody Fick with the Aces pitching staff.

In 2016, Wollenzin helped with Boomer Synek’s transition from second base to catcher, and Synek responded with one of the best seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference. An all-conference selection, Synek led the team in batting average and was an unprecedented defensive catcher, picking off 13 runners and throwing another 19 out attempting to steal.

In his playing days, Wollenzin helped lead the Governors to the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference championship and a spot in the NCAA Bloomington regional. A regular starter behind the plate, he made 109 starts over the course of his career, hitting .249 with 62 scores and 46 runs batted in.

A native of Lakewood, Colo., Wollenzin graduated from APSU in 2014.
