2023
  • Developed into a key weekend starter for the Purple Aces as a junior
  • Started 15 games and posted a 6-5 record and 4.31 ERA in 77.1 innings of work
  • Led the MVC and ranked 63rd in the NCAA in fewest hits allowed per nine innings at 7.22
  • Also led the Valley in opponents’ batting average against at .221
  • Ranked 11th in the MVC in ERA at 4.31 while ranking eighth in innings pitched at 77.1
  • Tied for fifth in the MVC in wins with a team-high six
  • Earned MVC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 20 after shutting out Purdue over 6.0 innings of four-hit baseball while striking out a career-high eight men (3/19/23)
  • That start came on the heels of tossing a career-high 7.0 innings of three-hit baseball in a victory at Middle Tennessee State (3/12/23)
  • Went 4-0 with a 0.78 ERA (2 ER in 23.0 IP) and 21 strikeouts in the month of March
  • Also threw 7.0 scoreless innings of five-hit baseball at Illinois State in a no-decision in which he struck out seven (UE won 1-0, 5/6/23)
  • Earned MVC victories at Missouri State (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K – 3/26/23) and at Murray State (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K – 4/23/23)
  • Turned in a dominant performance against Murray State in the MVC Tournament, allowing two runs (one earned) on four singles in 7.0 innings of work with seven strikeouts (5/25/23); allowed just an infield single and a walk through the first five innings against the Racers
  • Earned the MVC’s Elite 17 Award for having the highest GPA in the MVC Tournament final
  • Voted to the MVC’s Scholar-Athlete First Team in a voted of the league’s sports information directors
2022
  • UE’s primary mid-week starter as a sophomore
  • Made 12 appearances with eight starts
  • Posted a 2-3 record with a 6.25 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 40.1 innings of work
  • Earned his first win of the season with a 7.0-inning complete-game effort at Butler in UE’s 11-1 win, as he allowed just a single unearned run on two hits and two walks, while striking out a season-best five men
  • Also struck out a season-high five men against Southern Illinois in the MVC Tournament in his only MVC start of the year (5.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 K – 5/28/22)
  • Only regular-season MVC appearance came in relief at Indiana State, as he gave up three unearned runs on a walk, a two-out error, and a home run while facing three batters (4/24/22)
  • Did make mid-week starts against MVC newcomers Belmont (L, 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K – 4/26/22) and Murray State (L, 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K – 5/17/22)
  • Pitched for the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League over the summer
  • Went 4-2 with a 1.77 ERA for the MoonDogs, striking out 51 men in 45.2 innings of work over eight starts
2021
  • Served as UE’s regular Sunday starter in the four-game weekend series format of the 2021 season
  • Pitched in 13 games, with 10 starts
  • Went 2-3 with an 8.55 ERA in 40.0 innings of work
  • Made his collegiate debut at #12 Georgia, getting a tough-luck loss in a 4-1 game in Athens, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in 4.0 innings of work (2/21/21)
  • Earned his first collegiate victory with 5.0 innings of three-hit, one-run baseball against Butler, striking out five (3/21/21)
  • Struck out a season-high eight men in 5.0 innings of work against Xavier (3/28/21)
  • Earned a win against Southern Illinois in non-conference action, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks in 5.0 innings of work in a 6-5 UE victory (5/9/21)
PREP
  • A standout on the mound and in the classroom at Kimberly High School in Kimberly, Wisconsin on the north side of Lake Winnebago, and 25 miles southwest of Green Bay
  • A first-team all-conference, second-team all-district and academic all-state pitcher
  • Helped the Papermakers to a Fox Valley Conference championship
  • Kimberly’s mascot is the Papermaker Wasp
  • A member of the National Honor Society
  • High school teammate of current UE junior Cal McGinnis
PERSONAL
  • Son of Tori and John Schultz
  • Has a sister, Annika
  • His dad, John, played baseball at the University of Minnesota-Morris
  • Graduated from UE in December with a degree in Sports Communication, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Leadership
  • Also played basketball growing up, and lists basketball as his second-best sport
  • Wants to work in sports media when his playing days are done
  • Hobbies include trivia, especially sports trivia
  • Has served as a play-by-play person, color commentator, and sideline reporter on UE’s ESPN+ and ESPN3 productions during his time at UE
  • Favorite food is watermelon
