At UE - Fred Jones is once again expected to be a key part of the UE starting rotation this spring...Returns completely healthy this year after earning a medical redshirt last season due to tendonitis...A power pitcher who can throw three pitches for strikes. 2006 - Started five games on the mound, going 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 25.0 IP...Gave up just 18 base hits, as he held the opposition to a .202 team batting average...Struck out 18 men against 11 walks...Earned the victory in UE’s 17-5 win over Maryland (2/19) by giving up two runs on four hits in 5.0 IP...Struck out a season-high seven in 6.1 IP of four-hit baseball vs. Iowa (3/5)...Tossed 5.2 scoreless innings vs. Eastern Illinois (2/26), striking out six...Held teams to a .125 average (3-for-24) with two outs. 2005 - Made 15 appearances, including 14 starts...Went 5-4 with a 3.45 ERA in 75.2 IP...His 3.45 ERA ranked as the third-lowest among newcomers in the MVC...Ranked fifth in the MVC in both opponents’ batting average (.223) and hits allowed (61)...Gave up only 12 extra-base hits...Named the MVC and National Pitcher of the Week (4/11) after tossing UE’s first no-hitter since 2000 vs. Northern Iowa (4/10)...Struck out 10 men in the no-hitter...Struck out a career-best 11 men vs. Southern Indiana (3/15)...Tossed 6.1 innings of four-hit, scoreless baseball in a 4-1 win over Missouri State (3/27)...Gave up more than five hits only twice in 15 games...In his four losses, was given only five total runs of support.
