2023
  • Limited to just 31 games due to an assortment of freak injuries
  • Started all 31 games in which he played in, with 28 starts in the outfield (13 in LF, 2 in CF, 13 in RF) and three starts at DH
  • Hit .209 with three doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI
  • Posted a .358 on-base percentage, as he led the team with nine HBPs despite missing 30 games
  • Missed 28 games from Feb. 24-April 14 due to a broken hand suffered in batting practice prior to UE’s home opener
  • Returned to the lineup at Southern Illinois, going 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs and six RBI in his first game back, despite having only one live “BP” prior to the contest (4/14/23)
  • Homered against WKU three games later, driving in a pair (4/18/23)

  • Reached base safely in the season’s final 16 games to close out the college season
  • Began his summer season in the Cape Cod League for the Chatham Anglers, and hit .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in 13 contests
  • Playing on a temporary contract with Chatham, he posted the second-highest batting average of any Anglers player, while posting a 1.244 OPS in 27 plate appearances
  • Transitioned to the Wausau Woodchucks of the Northwoods League in July, and continued to hit

  • Ranked in the MVC’s top 12 in every offensive category except for sacrifice flies, sacrifice hits, and triples
  • Second on the team with 22 multi-hit games (15 2-hit efforts, six three-hit games, and a four-hit game)
  • Also second on the team with 16 multi-RBI contests (nine two-RBI, five three-RBI, and two four-RBI games)
  • Had a 22-game on-base streak from February 19 at #10 N.C. State until March 29 against Austin Peay
  • Hit safely in 20 of those 22 games
  • Raised his batting average above .300 on March 4, and it never went below .300 again the rest of the season
  • Had a season-high four hits at Belmont (3/9/22), going 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI

  • Played both corner outfield positions and DH, while mainly playing left field
  • Started the year hitting safely in 15 of his first 18 games, as he made his 2021 debut on February 28 against Northern Illinois
  • Went a season-best 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and a season-best four RBI at Illinois State (4/24/21 – Game 2)
  • Also drove in a season-best four runs at Valparaiso (1-for-2, 3-run HR, sac fly – 5/16/21)
  • Homered in back-to-back games at Valparaiso (5/15/21 - Game 2 and 5/16/21)

2020
  • Started all 16 games in the COVID-shortened season as a true freshman
  • Split time between left field and right field, while also earning a couple of starts at DH
  • Hit .241 with four doubles, a home run and four RBI, while posting a .366 on-base percentage
  • Reached base safely in his first 11 games as a Purple Ace, collecting a hit in nine of the 11 games
  • First career hit was an RBI single at Tennessee Tech in his second career game (2/15/20)
  • Produced his first multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 effort against Butler at Bosse Field in downtown Evansville (3/1/20)
  • Had three of his four doubles in the series against Butler at Bosse Field, and produced all four doubles in the city of Evansville
  • Launched his first career home run in the series finale at Charleston (3/8/20)
  • Went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored against Indiana in the first-ever game played at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium (3/10/20); Was the first Purple Ace to record at multi-hit game in GAB Field history
PREP
  • One of the top prep players in the St. Louis metro area at St. Louis Priory High School
  • A 2019 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-America selection at first base as a senior
  • Also a 2018 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason Underclass All-America selection
  • Was rated as the No. 2 first base prospect in Missouri and No. 47 first baseman in the country by Perfect Game as a senior

  • Also went 3-2 with a save and a 2.78 ERA on the mound

  • Played in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League after his high school senior season, and led all players with a .467 average (7-for-15), two home runs, and seven RBI in the playoffs
PERSONAL
  • Son of Johanna and Bob Shallenberger
  • Has an older brother, Bobby
  • Graduated from UE last May with a degree in Psychology, and is currently pursuing his Master's in Leadership
  • Served as a student-teacher for an introductory psychology course last spring as a senior, and in addition to organizing and grading papers and tests, he would occasionally give lectures in the mornings before practices and games
  • His older brother, Bobby, was a pitcher at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) from 2017-21
  • His father, Bob, was a pitcher at both Saint Louis University and Creighton
  • His grandfather, Bob, played golf and tennis at the University of Arizona from 1969 through 1971, and played in professional golf tournaments after college
  • Multi-sport athlete growing up, as he played soccer, basketball, football and lacrosse
  • Lists soccer as his second-best sport
  • Wants to be a sport psychologist or collegiate coach, or possibly a mental health worker/therapist, after his baseball playing days are done
  • Favorite food is mac and cheese
  • Wears #32 because everyone in his family wore #32 when they played
  • Lists his hidden talent as the video game Guitar Hero
