At UE – Matt Major will battle for playing time behind home plate once again this spring...A smart player with a good feel for calling the game behind the plate...Possesses an above average arm and has good defensive skills.

2009 – Played in a career-best 12 games, including making two starts behind home plate...Hit .250 (3-for-12) with a double and four RBI...Posted a .438 on-base percentage, as he also worked four walks...Earned his first career start at Lipscomb, and proceeded to go 2-for-3 with an RBI (3/17)...Also earned a start against Oakland City, knocking a double and a career-best three RBI (4/28)...Hit .429 (3-for-7) in his two starts.

2008 – Saw action in six games at catcher off of the UE bench...Went 0-for-3 with a walk in four trips to the plate.

2007 – Appeared in one game as a reserve catcher for UE ...Caught the ninth inning of UE’s 19-1 victory at Murray State (3/6)...Played summer baseball for the Owensboro Oilers of the Kentucky-Indiana-Tennessee league.

Background – A three-sport athlete at Mater Dei High School...Lettered three years in baseball, while also playing basketball and football for the Wildcats...Helped Mater Dei to a city and conference championship as a senior...Hit .375 as a junior and .350 as a sophomore...A three-time academic all-city pick...Invited to the 2005 IHSBCA Junior Showcase...His father, Tim, played baseball at Western Illinois from 1976-80 and played one year in the Detroit Tigers’ organization...Majoring in biochemistry at UE...Chose Evansville because of the “strong academics and a great baseball program.”
