Biography

2024
  • Continued to be a strong pitching option for the Aces with 26 appearances, a 2-1 record, 2 saves, and a 6.02 ERA.
  • Had the fourth most appearances among the UE pitching staff at 26
  • Pitched a total of 38.2 innings with 34 hits, 28 runs, 26 earned runs, 32 walks, and 41 strikeouts
  • Earned his first win of the season at SEMO pitching 1.2 innings to close out Evansville's 7-6 win (4/29/24)
  • Earned his second win of the season at #16 East Carolina to send the Aces to their 1st NCAA Super Regional appearance with a season-high 4 innings pitched while only allowing a hit and striking out one batter (6/3/24)
  • Struck-out a season high four batters against Indiana State in the MVC Tournament (5/25/24)
  • Earned saves against Purdue Fort Wayne (3/3/24) and at Indiana (4/16/24)
2023
  • A key part of the UE pitching staff as a true freshman, tying for third on the team with Shane Harris with 23 appearances
  • Led all MVC freshmen in appearances, and ranked 11th in the league overall in appearances
  • Went 3-0 with a save and a 7.18 ERA in 23 appearances, including three mid-week starts
  • Struck out 38 men in 36.1 innings of work
  • Had 11 scoreless outings, including in each of his last three appearances of the year
  • Earned his first collegiate victory in his second career appearance, allowing a run over two hitless innings against Eastern Michigan (2/25/23)
  • Made his first career start and picked up the win at Southeast Missouri State (3/1/23), giving up five runs on four hits in 3.0 innings of work; allowed only two balls to leave the infield in the first two innings until a third-inning grand slam did a majority of the damage
  • Tossed 1.1 scoreless innings at #7 Vanderbilt (3/8/23)
  • Struck out a season-high five men in 2.0 innings of work in his first career MVC contest at Missouri State (3/25/23 – Game 2)
  • Recorded the final out to earn his first career save against Valparaiso in UE’s 9-8 win on 4/8/23
  • Got his third win in his third career start against WKU, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in 3.0 innings of work at home (4/18/23)
  • Finished the regular-season with back-to-back scoreless relief outings at Indiana (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R – 5/16/23) and UIC (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R – 5/19/23)
  • Tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a walk against Missouri State in the MVC Tournament (5/26/23)
  • Pitched in two games this summer for the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League

  • Played both baseball and football at York High School
  • Struck out 26 men in 16.2 innings as a senior on the diamond
  • Split time at QB, wide receiver and place kicker on the football team during his high school career
  • Helped the Dukes to a 12-1 record as a senior on the gridiron

  • Has three siblings – Jake, Ava and Jack
  • Also competed in football, basketball, diving, and sailing growing up
  • Was in Sports Illustrated – Kids for sailing when he was younger
  • Became the youngest competitor to race in the Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac – which is the longest freshwater sailboat race in the world at 333 miles.  The then-12-year-old Max competed with three generations of his family – his grandfather, father John, and older brother, Jake
  • Lists football as his second-best sport
  • Has aspirations to play professional baseball after college
  • Favorite food is steak
