Chad Harmon returned to the Purple Aces men's basketball team in 2016 after a brief one-year stint with the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. In September of 2017, he was promoted to the program's Director of Basketball Operations.  In his short time at Monmouth he was able to help lead a high scoring offensive attack, setting the program record for 3 pointers made in a season and leading the conference in team 3 point fg%. He also helped in the development of the individual student athletes, coaching the conference leaders in offensive and defensive rebounds. In the final game of the season they had a single player break the school record for three-pointers made in a game, raining in 10 in one game. They had one student athlete selected to the 2nd Team all conference team and that same student athlete recorded the program’s first ever triple-double during the season.
Prior to the Fighting Scots, Harmon was on staff at his alma mater, the University of Evansville. In 2015, Harmon helped the Aces to a record of 24-12 and the CIT Championship. Evansville went 5-0 in the tournament en route to the championship. The record was the best for the program since the 1991-92 season. For the first time since joining the Missouri Valley Conference, the team had two players on the All-MVC First Team as D.J. Balentine and Egidijus Mockevicius garnered the accolade.Â
Harmon was a part of a coaching staff that helped develop Mockevicius into leading the MVC in rebounding and shooting in his sophomore campaign. Mockevicius also ranked 4th in the nation in double-doubles in 2014-15. Harmon was a part of a team that pulled the upset off against #23 nationally ranked Northern Iowa on January 1, 2015.Â
In his first year with the Purple Aces, he assisted a coaching staff that saw Balentine be named 1st team All-Missouri Valley Conference, Mockevicius land on the All-Defensive team, and Blake Simmons be honored on the All-Freshman team. Harmon also worked closely with a coaching staff that saw Balentine lead the MVC in scoring and finish fourth in the country by averaging 24 ppg as a sophomore during the 2013-14 season.
Harmon’s duties with the Purple Aces included, breaking down game film, preparing scouting reports and running the teams training and study tables. He also assisted in planning and coordinating of all aspects of the teams travel for road contests. He spent a lot of time creating, organizing, and sending out recruiting mail outs via the teams social media accounts.
Harmon joined the Aces in June of 2013 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA D2 University of Illinois Springfield. While in his first season at UIS, Harmon helped lead the Prairie Stars to new heights. In the 2011-2012 season Harmon was a vital part of the Prairie Stars reaching their first ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. He also helped guide them to 12 conference wins, also a new high for UIS.
During his two years at UIS Harmon coached an all-region performer, first team All-GLVC member, two second team All-GLVC members, and two All-GLVC Defensive team members. Harmon’s duties with the Prairie Stars included, breaking down game film, preparing scouting reports and running the scout team. He also was in charge of planning and coordinating all aspects of the teams travel for road contests. He was involved in all aspects of recruiting including high school and junior college athletes.
In Addition to his duties at UIS, Harmon spent the summer of 2012 as the Head Video Coordinator for the WNBA Washington Mystics. Prior to his stint at UIS, Harmon was an assistant coach at Lincoln College a NJCAA school in Lincoln, Illinois.
