Geoff Alexander enters his fourth season as a member of the University of Evansville men's basketball staff. Alexander assists with the Purple Aces forwards, helping Egidijus Mockevicius lead the MVC in rebounding and shooting in his sophomore campaign. He also oversaw Mockevicius rank 4th in the nation in double-doubles in 2014-15 as the Purple Aces won the CIT Championship.
Alexander came to UE after spending the 2011-12 campaign in the same capacity at Eastern Illinois University. Prior to his time with the Panthers, Alexander was an assistant for five seasons at Idaho State.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity that Coach Simmons has given me at the University of Evansville,” Alexander said. “I'm looking forward to being a part of the Purple Aces basketball program and can't wait to get started."
In just one season at EIU, the Lincoln, Ill. native helped the Panthers helped them improve by three wins from 2010. At Idaho State, he worked under head coach Jim O’Brien, helping ISU to three Big Sky Conference Tournament appearances along with two berths in the semifinals.
At ISU, he served as the recruiting coordinator where he secured the top class in the Big Sky in 2007. In his first season there, he signed six freshmen. As a coach for post players, Alexander helped transform Lucas Steijn from a back-up at the beginning of the season to an All-Conference player that season.
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Western Illinois, from 2000-02. He then spent one season as an assistant coach at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas where he helped the team post a 17-13 record and tie for second place in NJCAA Region 14.
From there, he moved on to coach for three seasons at Daytona State College in Florida. He helped the program post a three year record of 70-24 including a 25-5 record in 2006 when the team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the NJCAA poll. At DSC he helped the team win three consecutive Mid-Florida Conference Championships and saw eleven players go on to receive scholarships at NCAA Division I programs, including Solomon Jones, a second round pick in the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
Alexander earned his undergraduate degree from Western Illinois in 2000 and his master’s degree from WIU in 2002. He played two seasons at Southeastern (Iowa) Community College before transferring to finish his career at Western Illinois. He is married to the former Kiersten Coleman and the couple has three children.
