Joel Zimba is the Executive Deputy Athletics Director for External Relations and Men’s Basketball General Manager at the University of Evansville, where he has been a driving force since joining in 2024. As second-in-command, Joel partners with Director of Athletics Ziggy Siegfried to shape the department’s vision, lead all facets of external operations, and support and advise the Director of Athletics on coaching searches and other high-priority initiatives, ensuring top-tier leadership for UE’s athletic programs.
Known for his innovative approach, Joel oversees communications, marketing, fan engagement, creative content, revenue generation, community relations, and ESPN+ production. He also serves as the department’s liaison to Learfield, strengthening strategic partnerships and collaborating on revenue and marketing initiatives. In addition, Joel actively supports fundraising efforts, helping drive philanthropic growth for UE Athletics. His leadership has propelled UE Athletics to new heights: record-setting ticket sales, record fan attendance, and new revenue streams. Under his direction, the department also generated millions of social media impressions and secured the largest apparel deal in UE Athletics history.
As Men’s Basketball General Manager, Joel guides roster strategy, NIL initiatives, and external engagement, helping the program thrive in the evolving world of collegiate athletics. Beyond basketball, he serves as a sports administrator for several programs, championing their growth and success.
Prior to UE, Joel made an impact as District Athletic and Activities Director for Verona Area School District in Wisconsin, overseeing more than 25 varsity sports and 120+ coaches. He also held roles at Valparaiso University in athletics coaching, administration, development, advancement, and fundraising.
An active member of the Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium (CALS), Joel collaborates with industry leaders and directors nationwide. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Valparaiso University.
Throughout his career, Joel has served on various boards and committees, including the Madison Area Sports Commission, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Athletics Advisory Council, and the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Committee. At the University of Evansville, he is also a member of the Institutional Equity and Title IX Investigation and Adjudication Team, underscoring his dedication to fostering equity and integrity across the university community.
Joel and his wife, Krystin, are proud parents of two sons, Tayden and Beckham.
